Title: Drum & Bass Music: Grooverider - Starbase 23
Description: The Cosmic Lounge presents Drum & Bass Music: 'Starbase 23' by Grooverider.
"Grooverider (born Raymond Bingham) is the stage name of a drum'n'bass DJ from London. Grooverider began his DJing career at illegal raves and warehouse parties in Britain in the late eighties, and rose to prominence with partner Fabio through his innovative sets at influential club nights such as Rage and Speed. At these nights, Grooverider championed the emerging UK breakbeat culture that would eventually split from house and techno to produce Hardcore, and then after another split it became jungle, which would in turn become known as drum and bass.
Grooverider remains an influential figure in the worldwide drum and bass scene, in part due to his successful radio show on BBC Radio 1 (presented in conjunction with Fabio) which has attained a devoted audience outside the United Kingdom. Consequently, he is in great demand as a DJ and works extensively abroad as well as in the UK.
Although Grooverider is known primarily as a DJ and presenter, he is also a recording artist and runs one of the most prestigious drum and bass imprints; Prototype Recordings. Prototype is known for its sporadic, yet highly-anticipated, releases showcasing productions from many of the biggest names in drum and bass, including Dillinja, Ed Rush, Photek and Optical. As a recording artist, Grooverider has released one album, Mysteries of Funk (Sony 1998), produced in conjunction with Optical, and a number of acclaimed remixes. As of 2005, he is currently working on a new album."

Title: "Islands In The Stream HOUSE" Kenny & Dolly VS Basement Jaxx
Description: "Islands In The Stream (BJ Club Mix)"
Basement Jaxx "Red Alert (Club Mix)"
mixed with the
Kenny Rogers & Dolly Parton
original track.
Made this remix a year ago, everyone seems to love it, but just got around to making a video for it. Nothing too outrageous, and just a few embellishments of my own.
Tried some video effects & fancy editing, but it looked better as the original (timed properly). Dolly's dancing fits the beat!
Timing was difficult because there never was an "official" music video for "Islands..." (so no easy sync), only this live performance (as far as I know). Dolly seemed to be the one on "the bottle" this time, as her timing was off (in the original you can hear the band trying to over-correct just a little), and she spoke some of the lines & ad-libs.
much, Much, MUCH respect to my heroes
The Basement Jaxx!
"Red Alert" was the track that got me back into House Music, after being turned off by pop sell-out stuff like Technotronic & Snap!, and the like. I was "strictly" a Drum & Bass head from about 1994 on.
I first heard "Red Alert" as the first track of the show after the Fabio & Grooverider Drum & Bass show (used to get in on minidisc every 2 weeks from a guy in the UK) when it first came out. I thought it was Jamiroquai at first, with Jay K's voice sped up! I liked it so much, it was played at my wedding.... TWICE!! :@)
(and used it on a few "remixes"
on my Jamglue page:
http://www.jamglue.com/people/djmoon :)
"Islands.." was ok. Not really a fan. This remix was actually in response to a friend of mine dedicating a remix to me (for helping him find tracks to mix), Kenny Rogers "The Gambler" mixed with J-Kwon "Tipsy" (get the correlation?;) on Jamglue.com ...
Title: Grooverider hits the Streets in Vancouver - FREE THE RIDER!!
Description: Ask anyone in drum'n'bass what first inspired them to make music and Grooverider's name is sure to crop up. Not only has he notched up an incredible twelve years behind the decks, DJing everywhere from dingy illegal warehouse parties to huge outdoor festivals, but his legendary radio shows with longtime companion Fabio (Radio One FM) helped spread the gospel of drum'n'bass further and further afield.
Currently he is in Jail in Dubai for 2 years for a small amount of Cannabis. Free the Rider!!

Title: Grooverider - Blindside (Cause 4 Concern) (♫)
Description: Ask anyone in drum'n'bass what first inspired them to make music and Grooverider's name is sure to crop up. Not only has he notched up an incredible twelve years behind the decks, DJing everywhere from dingy illegal warehouse parties to huge outdoor festivals, but his legendary radio shows with longtime companion Fabio (first for Kiss FM and now Radio One FM) helped spread the gospel of drum'n'bass further and further afield. As resident at seminal London night Rage throughout its four year stint at Heaven, he personally oversaw dance music's evolution from acid house to techno and finally drum'n'bass.
"Everyone who's about on the scene now was there," he recalls, "it was like school for a lot of people. That club's got something special about it - when you play in that DJ booth way above the dancefloor, you really feel like an overlord. You're in the throne. You've got to perform. I used to go there years before and watch Paul Oakenfold playing and think 'yeah, I wouldn't mind being up there myself."
It was also here that 'Rider, a born and bred South Londoner, first encountered a budding young producer called Goldie. "Somebody gave me one of his records on an acetate," he remembers, "and I was playing out one night when suddenly I see some geezer banging on the door of the DJ booth. "I thought 'who on earth is this fucking nutter?' He was shouting 'this is my fucking tune. Let me in!' So I let him in and congratulated him and it all went from there. We just kinda hit it off straight away."
These days he organises Goldie's Metalheadz club nights usually topping bills that invariably read like a who's who of drum'n'bass. "Everybody wants to play for us," he announces proudly, "we do good parties then people want to play at them. All a far cry from the days in the mid '80s when Groove first ventured behind a pair of Technics at Brixton pirate radio station Phase One. Back then, way before acid house turned the music business on its head, he'd play anything from soul, funk and rap to raw early electro, R&B and even punk. "Year" he laughs now. "I used to love all that skinhead music too, I loved the Jam and the Clash. X Ray Spex were my group! I couldn't mix or nothing when I started at the station, but it didn't matter, because its not about how well you mix, it's about what music you play. A lot of people have forgotten that over the years."
How about his plans for the future?
"I've got a stack of remixes to get stuck into now," he grins, "I like to remix everybody I can. As long as there's something in there I can use I'll mix and do the best I can do, because it's my responsibility to simply do the best I can do. Not for other people but myself. I'm really critical of myself so I'm always trying to chase myself, better myself.
