Title: Scarborough Fair - Gregorian Chant (HD)
Description: ♬ (HD) Scarborough Fair ~ Gregorian Chant ~ Sung by Gregorian ~ Created by Leroux Scarborough Fair was a traditional English fair, and is also a traditional English ballad. It appears to derive from an older, now obscure, Scottish ballad, The Elfin Knight which has been traced as far back as 1670 and may well be earlier. The song tells the tale of a young man, who tells the listener to ask his former lover to perform for him a series of impossible tasks, such as making him a shirt without a seam and then washing it in a dry well, adding that if she completes these tasks he will take her back. Often the song is sung as a duet, with the woman then giving her lover a series of equally impossible tasks, promising to give him his seamless shirt once he has finished. I hope you enjoy my interpretation and outcome of this tale of the two lovers and the Scarborough Fair. During the late Middle Ages the seaside town of Scarborough was an essential venue for tradesmen from all over England. It was host to a huge 45-day trading event, which was exceptionally long for a fair in those times. Merchants came to it from all areas of England, Norway, Denmark, the Baltic and the Byzantine Empire. Scarborough Fair originated from a charter granted by King Henry III of England on 22 January 1253. The charter, which gave Scarborough many privileges, stated The Burgesses and their heirs forever may have a yearly fayre in the Borough, to continue from the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed ...

Title: Sounds of Silence - Gregorian Chant
Description: ♬ Sounds of Silence ~ Gregorian Chant ~ Created by Leroux Someone shared a beautiful video with me that xxlittleladyluck2009 at www.youtube.com had created. It was so beautiful that it inspired me to create this video response. I have always thought this song was pretty, but had never heard it in chant, which I thought accentuated the song and brought it to a whole new level. The original version of Sounds of Silence is the song that propelled the 1960s folk music duo Simon and Garfunkel to popularity. It was written in February 1964 by Paul Simon in the aftermath of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963. Simon conceived of the song as a way of capturing the emotional trauma felt by many Americans. Gregorian chant is the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic liturgical chant in Western Christianity that accompanied the celebration of Mass and other ritual services. Gregorian, the band that sings this, is a German band which performs Gregorian chant-inspired versions of modern pop and rock songs. Because it features both vocal harmony and instrumental accompaniment, the music cannot be considered true Gregorian chant.

Description: (tinyurl.com You are listening to a sample of Psaltiki (ecclesiastical chant, erroneously known as Byzantine Music), using a biblical verse, in FRENCH (Louez le Seigneur du haut des cieux. Alléluia.) PSALM CXLVIII = 148, as interpreted by Georgios K. MICHALAKIS, psaltis, assisted by Fabien Donneger and Fr. Laurent. PLEASE click on the following LINK to view an explanatory webpage (tinyurl.com MANY links are provided in the end of the aforementionned web page, beneath the Hellenic text (Hellines = you should READ this). ALL Material provided is FREE to DOWNLOAD and DISTRIBUTE UNCHANGED, and to USE for GOD-FEARING RELIGIOUS purposes ONLY. The hymn is chanted in First mode, in manner called « chronos kalophonikos ». This is a bit sensual, for it uses smooth attacks and many equal temporal divisions, and it is for this reason that it is utilised only AFTER the end of some religious ceremony. My interpretation was limited to 5 minutes, and I was therefore obliged to "cut off" some concluding beats from various measures (in other words, there is a concession made in terms of rhythm), to abbreviate musical lines by removing entire beats, or to even accelerate tempo a bit in others. All this is well known to be done in "Eleutheros Chronos" but also in many other occasions, as is related by Angelos Boudouris concerning Patriarchal chanting during his time. Note: Interval stability is quite difficult when chanting in a language (in this case French) other than that of one's psaltic ...

Description: Gregorian Chant Remix where there is music there is God. Gregorian chant is the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic liturgical chant in Western Christianity that accompanied the celebration of Mass and other ritual services. This vast repertory of chants is the oldest music known as it is the first repertory to have been adequately notated in the 10th century. In general, the chants were learnt by the viva voce method, that is by following the given example orally, which took many years of experience in the Schola Cantorum. Gregorian chant originated in Monastic life, in which singing the 'Divine Service' nine times a day at the proper hours was upheld according to the Rule of St. Benedict. Singing psalms made up a large part of the life in a monastic community, while a smaller group and soloists sang the chants. In its long history Gregorian Chant has been subjected to many gradual changes and some reforms. A LiFe LiNe TMaR PiNoY SCanDaL MuSiC ViDeO

Title: Gregorian Chants & Buddistic Shómyó
Description: A dialogue of two spiritual cultures based on the musical repertoire of the Buddhist and the Christian tradition - Schola Gregoriana Pragensis & Gjosan-rjú Tendai Sómjó(Buddhist Monks from Japan). Meaningful dialogue between religions is no doubt one of the most pressing challenges of the modern world. Developments over the past few years clearly confirm what a significant role this aspect of human communication represents. Despite breathtaking technological breakthroughs and the related trend of rational scepticism, man still remains a religious creature. Ignoring this sphere of human personality not only leads to an impoverishment of the spiritual culture of a nation, but also to mutual estrangement of nations. And so what a wonderfully enriching experience it is then two cultures meet in mutual dialogue rather than confrontation. View, listen & order the CD at www.kuk-art.com

Title: Nuns Chanting Ancient Songs Sign Major Record Deal
Description: A group of nuns from France answer the prayers of a major record company looking for the world's best Gregorian chant performers. A group of secluded nuns near Avignon, France, have signed a major record deal with Lady Gaga's record label. Decca Records chose the nuns after a worldwide search for the best female Gregorian chant performers. The nuns of the Abbaye de Notre-Dame de l'Annonciation shone above 70 convents across the globe. The nuns can now call Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, U2 and convent-educated Lady GaGa herself - label-mates. The nuns are part of an ancient order, dating back to the 6th century. Sisters continue the tradition of talking with any visitors, even family, through a wooden grille to avoid intrusion from the outside world. Once vows have been taken to live in the convent, the sisters remain there for the rest of their lives. [Sister Raphael, Abbaye de Notre-Dame de l'Annonciation]: "Before starting the recording, we were a bit nervous, we were a bit afraid about what would happen to our cloistered life so we confided this to St. Joseph in our prayers. If this was going to help people to pray, if it's going to help people find God, if it's going to help peace, go through with it, make this go through." To avoid interference in their daily lives, the nuns will film their own television commercial and photograph their own album cover. The self-sufficient nuns - amongst them a plumber, an engineer, an electrician, a silk-weaver and ...

Description: ♬ (HD) Bridge Over Troubled Water ~ Gregorian Chant ~ Created by Leroux Bridge over Troubled Water is the title song of Simon & Garfunkel's final album together, released January 26, 1970. Simon wrote the song in the summer of 1969 and its recording process exposed many of the underlying tensions that eventually led to the breakup of the duo after the album's completion. Most notably, Paul Simon has repeatedly expressed regret that he insisted that Art Garfunkel sing this song as a solo, as it focused attention on Garfunkel and relegated Simon to a backing position. Garfunkel said that the moment when he performed it in Madison Square Garden in 1972 was "almost biblical". Gregorian chant is the central tradition of Western plainchant, a form of monophonic liturgical chant in Western Christianity that accompanied the celebration of Mass and other ritual services.

Description: O Come, Emmanuel ~ Veni, Emmanuel ~ is one of the oldest Latin Advent hymns in the style of Gregorian chant. I love Gregorian chant! ... Do you? I played this hymn at a Concert in St. Mathias Church and afterwards a lady came running up and exclaimed: Ohhhhh! your pan pipe gave me goose bumps.... ! ! ! I did this Pan Flute solo to demonstrate certain playing techinques for my students who work with my 'How To Play Pan Flute' videos here on YouTube. To my students... notice the legato attack, syncopated phrasing, silences, bent notes and a bit of improvisation. But I also played it because It's an important song in the Christian tradition... The original is based on the ninth-century "O" Antiphons used at daily prayer in the evenings of the last days of Advent in various liturgical Christian traditions. An antiphon is a response, usually sung in Gregorian chant, to a psalm or some other part of a religious service, such as at Vespers or at a Mass. This meaning gave rise to the antiphony style of singing called "call and response" which, by the way, is a standard prescription in Blues. A piece of music which is performed by two semi-independent choirs interacting with one another, often singing alternate musical phrases, is known as antiphonal. In particular, antiphonal psalmody is the singing or musical playing of psalms by alternating groups of performers. The peculiar mirror structure of the Hebrew psalms renders it probable that the antiphonal method originated in the ...

================= Orthodox Christian monastery in France, under the ecclesiastical jurisdiction of the Holy Patriarchate of Serbia. ========== Ὀρθόδοξον μοναστήριον ἐν Γαλλίᾳ ================= Most of the nuns in this recording of from various origins other than French. Title: Die Kiedricher Chorbuden - Cantate Domino
Description: 1- 'Cantate Domino', Giusippe O. Pitouni(1657-1743) 2- 'Meine Seele Gott erhebt', Andreas Hammerschmidt(1612-1675) The Kiedricher Chorbuben - a piece of living Gothic. Every Sunday you can hear that at 9:30 am in the Church service when about 40 Boys and Men in liturgical clothing singing a latin mass. This tradition is a life since 1333. The teachers of a little village school teached "in cantu chorali et figurali" - the gregorian choral and also in Latin still in the 17th century. Also rationalism and enlightenment could not destroy the tradition in the 18th century. Because of a donation by the english Baronet John Sutton in 1865 the choir school could survive. Also today the focus of the choir is to sing Gregorian music. So even today you can see and hear the Gothic times with the choir, the organ and the bells which is unique. About 100 times a year the Choir Boys are singing. The Boys rehearse five times a week, the young Men two times. And at the weekend, when everybody elso has free time the choir is singing in mass. Today the choir also sings choir music like motets as well as compostions together with an orchestra. Giuseppe Ottavio Pitoni was an Italian composer born at Rieti. He came to Rome as a boy and sang in the choir of Santi Apostoli church. Francesco Foggia gave him instructions in counterpoint, and he became maestro di Cappella, first at Terra di Rotondo and later (1673) at Assisi. In 1676 he went to Rieti, and in 1677 to Rome, where he held various ...
Video: Old Roman Catholic Chant - Popule meus
Title: Old Roman Catholic Chant - Popule meus
Description: Gregorian and Old Roman chant largely share the same liturgy, but Old Roman chant does not reflect some of the Carolingian changes made to the Roman liturgy. Both an Old Roman and a Gregorian version exist for most chants of the liturgy, using the same text in all but forty chants, with corresponding chants often using related melodies. The split between Gregorian and Old Roman appears to have taken place after 800, since the feast of All Saints, a relatively late addition to the liturgical calendar, has markedly different chants in the two traditions. The Old Roman tradition appears to have preserved the texts more faithfully; the Old Roman texts often resemble the earliest Carolingian sources more closely than the later Gregorian sources do.
