Title: Oshe - Treachery
Description: Damn! I can't get over what great song this is! A "drums+space" style intro, followed by a solid groove laid down by Ken B. Love on Bass and Adam Ochshorn on drums. Jake Savage looks like a mad wizard conjuring up some funky/spacey licks amongst his glowing vacuum tubes and exposed Fender-Rhodes tone bars. His solo near the end sounds like his sending an SOS in Morse Code to the mothership. And the guitar work by Will Senisi is beautiful beyond description. It's like he's playing notes from the wrong scale.. but it's perfect.
How to describe this band? It's safe to say that if you like the great prog bands from the 70-80s, Yes, ELP, Genesis, Tangerine Dream, Ash Ra Temple, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, funky keyboards like Herbie Hancock or Stevie Wonder, vituoso electric guitar like Eric Johnson or Jeff Beck, or more recent acid-jazz or jam bands like Ozric Tenticles, Medeski Martin and Wood, etc.,you are sure to enjoy OSHE!!
An incredible performance by a great band from Schenectedy, NY: OSHE (pronouned "ah-shay"). Recorded at Cyber Cafe West, Binghamton NY 5/20/05. Video produced by Bill Huston. Audio by Ted Hissin (available on archive.org).
PS: That's me you can hear shouting "WOOOOOOOO!" at the end of this video. When you are shooting video of a band like this, you can't imagine how hard it is to stay focused on the tech aspects, when you really want to kick back and enjoy the music.
Technical comments about this video:
The video quality is better on the DVD, because I had to use a lot of compression to make a 12 min. song fit into 100mb. Even on the DVD the video is a bit dark, as the stage not well lit. I had to turn up the gain which makes for grainy video, which some people say provides an artsy effect. Hopefully you'll agree.
It's a great tragedy this band is no longer together. But we are VERY lucky to have recorded this rare performance. Relax and enjoy!
