Title: Lotta Love - Nicolette Larson
Description: Lotta Love by Nicolette Larson
Title: Nicolette Larson - Rhumba Girl
Description: Issued March 1979 on Warner Bros 8795.
Nicolette Larson was born in Helena, Montana, and grew up in Kansas City. Following graduation from school, she moved to San Francisco, working with the Golden Gate Country/Bluegrass Festival. She began her singing career with David Nichtern & The Nocturnes, moving on to work with Commander Cody & His Lost Planet Airmen for three years. During the time she worked with Cody, Nicolette moved to Los Angeles and sang on albums by Hoyt Axton, Neil Young, Guy Clark, Linda Ronstadt, Jesse Colin Young, Graham Nash, Rodney Crowell, John Stewart, The Doobie Brothers and Jesse Winchester, from whom she learned this song.
Nicolette signed with Warner Bros in 1978, and had a huge hit first time out with Neil Young's "Lotta Love." The next single was this state-of-the-art cover of Jesse Winchester's "Rhumba Man," reworked for the female point of view. It only made #47 in the US when issued at the end of March 1979. In Canada, it entered the RPM 100 on April 14th at #90 with a bullet, and spent three weeks at #15 at the end of June and into July.
Her debut album was produced by Ted Templeman, and featured a stellar cast of Los Angeles' best musicians. Nicolette sang on dozens of major records by major stars, but was unable to duplicate her initial solo success. She crossed over to country, but none of her records made the Top 40 Country charts. "That's When You Know Love's Right," a duet with Steve Wariner, went to #9 in 1986. Following a 1987 album that failed to chart at all, she retired, and spent the next period of her life with her husband, drummer Russ Kunkel, and their daughter, Elsie May.
Nicolette Larson died on December 16, 1997 in Los Angeles from a cerebral edema, at the age of 45.

Title: Nicolette Larson, Give A Little, Fostering Humanitarian Love
Description: Once upon a time there was an angel, with a beautiful voice, who graced this earth. Her name was Nicolette Larson. She not only had a beautiful voice, but she was also a sweet, kind and gentle soul.
I had the good fortune to meet Nicolette on several occasions in Nashville and was lucky enough to see her in concert at least five times. She was an incredible artist, wife and mother.
Sadly, Nicolette passed away in 1997 from a cerebral aneurysm. I learned of Nicolette's passing from Matraca Berg, while attending a music business symposium in Nashville. I was immediately overcome with grief. Nicolette's music had been such an important part of my life and I could not fathom a world in which she did not live. Eleven years later, I still miss her terribly and listen to her music often.
This song 'Give A Little', was recorded on her 1978 release, 'Nicolette', that was considered to be her breakthrough recording. The album contained her chart topping song, that is still played on the radio to this day -- 'Lotta Love'.
'Give A Little' is a song that Nicolette sings about love, caring for others and charity for humanity. I believe that fostering charity is an important thing in we human beings.
Whether we give of our time by volunteering or by making financial contributions, by the very nature of giving of ourselves, we make the world a better place for others. It's a way to show our love for humanity.
As you watch this video and listen to Nicolette's beautiful voice, quietly ask yourself if there is something that you can do to help or comfort another person. Whether it's helping an elderly acquaintance, opening the door for a stranger, helping your child with their homework, dropping in on a family member or friend who is ill or whatever you chose to do to help or comfort another -- believe me, it will make the world a better place. You can always feel good about being charitable towards humanity, because that's a good very thing.

Title: The Drifters Mexican Divorce (or When Burt Met Dionne) 1961
Description: The legendary Mexican Divorce was issued in February 1962 as the "B" side of the Drifters When My Little Girl Is Smiling. The subject of divorce was still touchy for 1962 and Mexican Divorce was relegated to the flip side, one of the Drifters' classiest ever. This is the recording that introduced Bacharach to Warwick. Six months earlier, in 1961 Bacharach recorded Mexican Divorce with the Drifters and at the session he met a 20 year old backup singer ("in pigtails and sneakers"). That background singer was to rival Aretha Franklin as the most important female singer of the '60s. Bacharach took immediate notice of the young, fetching shape of Marie Dionne Warrick and her stirring vocal quality and asked her to do some demo singing. Producers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stroller also took notice of Bacharach's interest and put Warwick's vocal so high up in the mix this could almost be considered a duet between Rudy Lewis and Warwick. "If I had to pick a favorite singer, it would be Dionne," stated Bacharach. "She was a dream vehicle for those years. She has such wide emotional range. She can be very understated and delicate, plus she is capable of going for the jugular. A marvelous voice. Thanks to Serene Dominic whose wonderful book Burt Bacharach: Song by Song, who details the history behind each Bacharach tune.
Nicolette Larson (1952-1997)cut, arguably, the definitive cover of this tune in 1978 for her Warner Brother's debut LP "Nicolette." Her introspective read captures both her spirit and the spirit of the tune perfectly.

Title: Jesse Winchester - Twigs And Seeds
Description: Issued August 1977 on Bearsville 0318-B (flip side of "Nothing But A Breeze") and in September 1977 on Bearsville 0320-B (flip side of "Rhumba Man.")
Neither of these singles charted for Jesse, but I suspect he wanted to make sure people had the opportunity to get this song. So it was issued as the B-side of two different records.
Harmony vocal is by Nicolette Larson, who would rework "Rhumba Man" into "Rhumba Girl" and release it in March 1979, taking it to #47 in the US.

Comes a Time is a 1978 album by Neil Young, and a return to the country/folk rock sound of Harvest (1972). Many of the tracks are highlighted by harmony vocals from Nicolette Larson. Originally, it had started out as a solo record, but when Young played it for Reprise executives they asked him if he wouldn't mind adding rhythm tracks to what he already had. Young agreed to this, and the end product was the Comes a Time that was released.
From Wikipedia
Comes a time
when you're driftin'
Comes a time
when you settle down
Comes a light
feelin's liftin'
Lift that baby
right up off the ground.
Oh, this old world
keeps spinning round
It's a wonder tall trees
ain't layin' down
There comes a time.
You and I we were captured
We took our souls
and we flew away
We were right
we were giving
That's how we kept
what we gave away.
Oh, this old world
keeps spinning round
It's a wonder tall trees
ain't layin' down
There comes a time.
