Title: Lynn Anderson sings "Cry" - 1972 recording.
Description: Lynn Anderson sings her original (recorded) version of the 1951 Johnnie Ray hit "Cry".
Johnnie Ray was enormously popular in Australia in the 1950's (especially with women), and drew huge crowds whenever he visited here.
He was classified as a 'crooner'.
Lynn recorded her version in 1972, and gave the former 'crooning' song a distinct 'country and western' sound.
It made it into the top 20 in that year.
( See the Johnnie Ray clip for the original version of " Cry " ).
Lynn had a big hit the previous year with her song "Rose Garden". It reached No.2 position on the Australian charts in April/May of 1971.
The cassette deck is a 1975 model Sony TC-152SD.
The Maxell XLII 90 epitaxial chromium dioxide ("chrome") tape was purchased in the 1980's.
Here are the lyrics to "Cry" -
If your sweetheart sends a letter of goodbye.
It's no secret, you'll feel better if you cry.
When waking from a bad dream,
Don't you sometimes think it's real?
But it's only false emotions that you feel.
If your heartache seems to hang around too long.
And your blues keep getting bluer with each song.
Remember sunshine can be found,
Behind a cloudy sky.
So let your hair down and go on and cry.
If your heartache seems to hang around too long.
And your blues keep getting bluer with each song.
Remember sunshine can be found,
Behind a cloudy sky.
So let your hair down and go on and cry.

Title: Top of the World, covered by Butch Lacy
Description: Butch Lacy covering the Carpenter's #1 hit "Top of the World," a 1973 song by the Carpenters. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 in 1973, becoming the duo's second U.S. number-one single. Originally intended to be only an album cut for the Carpenters, country artist Lynn Anderson first released it as a single in 1973, taking it to #2 on the U.S. country singles charts. The success of Anderson's version prompted the Carpenters to release a new version as a single, where it topped the U.S. pop singles chart. The song is equally identified with both the Carpenters and Lynn Anderson. Richard Carpenter has remixed the song's vocals, most recently for their 35th Anniversary Gold compilation. The Japanese group Shonen Knife recorded a cover version that appeared in the 1998 movie The Parent Trap.
In Cash Box magazine, "Top of the World" was #1 on December 1, 1973.

Title: LYNN ANDERSON - Rose Garden USTV 1973
Description: Country Gal Lynn Anderson performs her classic hit "Rose Garden" on USTV. Songs like this just are not and cannot be produced anymore. Today's Country Music, just like Soul/R&B music are severely flawed. Something has been lost. This is for a time gone by. I have a stack of Lynn's albums and early singles on Chart records but Rose garden always will be my favorite. Joe South the writer of the song was a master with words. Lynn only sang it but gave it the life it needed...The musical arrangement is unmatched. There is no version I've heard by anyone that can surpasses this original version.Including Lynns attempts at re-recording it.
