It was made famous originally by country music singer Dave Dudley. Released in 1963, it reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart that summer. It is often hailed as the definitive celebration of the American truck driver. It has most noteably been covered by Steve Earle (soundtrack to Planes Trains and Automobiles) , Sawyer Brown, Boxcar Willie, George Thorogood, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Tom Petty's band Mudcrutch, and Taj Mahal. Lyrics Well, I pulled out of Pittsburgh, Rollin' down the Eastern Seaboard. I've got my diesel wound up, And she's running like never before.
