Video: Acid Jazz Music: Atjazz - Harmony [Late Night]
Title: Acid Jazz Music: Atjazz - Harmony [Late Night]
Description: The Cosmic Lounge presents Acid Jazz Music: Dixon's 'Late Night' mix of 'Harmony' by Atjazz. "Martin Iveson moved from the North-East of England to the Midlands city of Derby in 1991 to take a position as in-house musician for the then fledgling video games company that went on to produce the Tomb Raider series of games. Not content with sound tracking one of the world's biggest computer games, Martin's passion for music saw him set up his own studio and record label, from which he could give a free rein to his personal music aspirations. Martin became Atjazz and Mantis Recordings' first release was his Story EP. The positive reactions to Story inspired his debut album That Something, which was released in 1998, and established the Atjazz name, going on to be licensed in Italy by Irma Records and Japan by Sony. Mantis Recordings moved onwards building a solid catalogue of releases from mainly local artists, and the Atjazz albums Labfunk and Labresults followed. While tracks on his debut album hinted at a particular Atjazz sound, it was these following albums that cemented his reputation as a world class producer with a distinctive yet diverse method to his sound, and making him an in demand producer, remixer and DJ. For Mantis he played a big role in the sound of Brooks debut album You, Me & Us, produced the album That Day for Magic Number, and works closely with Mantis' jerkbeat master Clyde. His vast studio knowledge isn't limited to just dirty disco, techno soul and hip hop beats either; he's turned his hand to twiddling the knobs for everyone from acoustic soloists to post hardcore indie rockers. His brand new album Full Circle sees Atjazz working with many superb artists. Peter Wraight, who played a big part of the sound of Labfunk brings his skill and knowledge once again, while singers Ernesto, Clara Hill, Sarah-Jane Morris, Dawne B, Amalia, and Mr J all deliver stunning performances, plus there's some mighty word wielding from Cee Rock and Hernandez. Superproducer Charles Webster is also joining forces with Atjazz, on a project called Version. They already have several remixes in the bag and a EP's coming soon for both Miso and Mantis. While for Jazzanova's prolific Sonar Kollektiv label, Atjazz has produced songs for the new Clara Hill album, and released the massive track For Real on their sub label Innervisions. A busy man indeed, and there's plenty more coming from his studio in the shape of a collaborations album which will see Atjazz hooking up with some big guns of house music." http://www.last.fm/music/Atjazz
Video: Atjazz - Put It On (Featuring Ernesto)
Title: Atjazz - Put It On (Featuring Ernesto)
Description: Atjazz returns with his first artist release for some time on his own label Mantis Recordings. Put It On is the first single from his forthcoming album Full Circle and a fantastic homecoming it is. Teaming up with prolific Swedish vocalist Ernesto (Swell Sessions, Beanfield, Stateless, Tantan, Pinku Vty), Atjazz has found a perfect voice for the development of his sound since his last album Labfunk . The crisp Detroitesque sounds of the production and Atjazz's faultless beats sit flawlessly with the soulful vocal delivery, making this an instantly memorable song. Renowned saxophonist Dave O'Higgins also shows how to play, as does bass guitarist Ross 'Magic Number' Hillard. With a track this well-built, little is required in the way of remixes, but it's hard to resist when there are producers like the ever on form Osunlade around to work his magic. His Club Mix lays it down for the dancefloor, and may well be familiar to your ears, as it's been a Gilles Peterson's Worldwide Winner, and played by many big guns involved in the deeper side of House music. The Atjazz album is almost complete with collaborations from superproducer Charles Webster , appearances from many fine musicians, and an outstanding lineup of vocalists. As well as Ernesto, Martin Iveson (Atjazz) has worked on Full Circle with Clara Hill , Sarah-Jane Morris, Dawne B, Charlie Dark and Mr J, all delivering stunning performances, plus there's some mighty word wielding from Cee-Rock the Fury and Hernandez. Also look out for the Atjazz release on the heavy INNERVISIONS label Sonar Kollektiv out Mid July with Charles Webster and Atjazz on remix duties as VERSION www.versionsounds.com

Video: BONNEE ROX sings Don
Title: BONNEE ROX sings Don't Leave me this Way
Description: BONNEE ROX live at the Four Crosses, Cannock History of the song. First charting as a hit for Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, an act on Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International label in 1975, "Don't Leave Me This Way" was later a hit single for both Thelma Houston and again for The Communards. The Blue Notes' original version of the song, featuring Teddy Pendergrass' lead vocal, was included as an album track on the group's successful Wake Up Everybody LP. Though not issued as a single in the United States, the Blue Notes' recording reached 3 on the Billboard Disco charts and later reached 5 on the UK singles chart. "Don't Leave Me This Way" was covered by Motown artist Thelma Houston in 1977. Her version, with its more overt disco arrangement, was a massive international hit, topping the Billboard Hot 100 chart for a single week in April 1977. The song peaked at 13 in the UK. The song is considered by many to be not only one of the Greatest Disco songs of all time but one of the Greatest Songs of the entire 1970's as well. Nine years later, the song was revived by The Communards in an avowedly Hi-NRG version. This recording topped the UK charts for four weeks in September 1986, becoming the biggest selling record of the year in the process. The featured guest vocalist was jazz singer Sarah Jane Morris. The song only reached 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 but did top the Billboard Dance chart.

Title: The Communards - Don't Leave Me This Way [Gotham City 20" Club Mix]
Description: 1986's #1 Smash-Dance/Club's worldwide-hit "Don't Leave Me This Way" by The Communards (Jimmy Somerville featuring Sara Jane Morris on vocals), but in the rare Gotham City 12"~20" Club Mix parts 1 & 2 (the source belongs to the original Maxi vinyl Promo remixed by Mike Thorne in 1986, and played specially for DJ's, Clubs & music collectors around the world) edited by me...hope you'll enjoy as the 7" Single/Radio version.... :) Review about Jimmy Somerville & "Don't Leave Me This Way" success.- Jimmy Somerville (born June 22, 1961) is a Scottish pop singer, born and raised in Glasgow. He had considerable success in the 1980s with the pop groups Bronski Beat and The Communards, and has also had a successful solo career. In 1983, Somerville co-founded the synth pop group Bronski Beat, who proceeded to have a number of hits in the British charts. Their biggest hit, "Smalltown Boy", which reached #3, was considered groundbreaking because of its lyrical content regarding homophobia. Somerville played the song's titular character in the music video, leaving his hostile hometown for the city. Somerville left Bronski Beat in 1985, and formed The Communards with classically trained pianist Richard Coles. They had a number of hits, including a cover version of Thelma Houston's "Don't Leave Me This Way", which spent four weeks at #1 in the UK charts, and became the biggest-selling single of 1986 in that country. He also sang backing vocals on the Fine Young Cannibals' version of "Suspicious Minds", which was a UK Top 10 hit. The Communards split in 1988, and Somerville launched his solo career. He had several solo hits between 1989 and 1991, also singing on the second Band Aid project at the end of 1989. After releasing his 1989 album Read My Lips (including a hit cover of Sylvester's "You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)"), along with a singles collection and cover of The Bee Gees' "To Love Somebody" a year later, Somerville left the limelight and was absent from recording for a number of years. Somerville returned in 1995 with the album Dare to Love, which included "Heartbeat", a #1 hit on the U.S. dance chart. Another album, entitled Manage The Damage, was released in 1999, and its companion remix album Root Beer came out a year later. Most recently, his dance-oriented fourth solo album, Home Again, was released in 2005. First charting as a hit for Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, an act on Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International label in 1975, "Don't Leave Me This Way" was later a hit single for both Thelma Houston and again for The Communards (led by Jimmy Somerville). The Blue Notes' original version of the song, featuring Teddy Pendergrass' lead vocal, was included as an album track on the group's successful Wake Up Everybody LP. Though not issued as a single in the United States, the Blue Notes' recording reached #3 on the Billboard Disco charts and later reached #5 on the UK singles chart. The song only reached #40 on the Billboard Hot 100 but did top the Billboard Dance chart. Houston's version was revived in 1995 in a remix, which reached #19 on the Billboard Dance Chart and #35 in the UK. The song has been recorded by several other artists including Sheena Easton, José Galisteo, Andy Abraham, and The Temptations, amongst others.

Title: The Communards - Don't Leave Me This Way [7" Single Edit]
Description: 1986's T. Houston's remake for smash-hit "Don't Leave Me This Way" By The Communards. Better than the original?...you're choose! Review.- Communards were a British pop duo formed in 1985 after singer Jimmy Somerville left his earlier band Bronski Beat to team up with classically-trained musician Richard Coles. Though mainly a pianist, Coles played a number of instruments and had been seen previously performing the clarinet solos on the Bronski Beat hit "It Ain't Necessarily So." Also with Dave Renwick, bass player, who also played with Bronski Beat. Jimmy was well-known for his falsetto singing style, and the fact that he was openly gay. The band had their first UK Top 30 hit in 1985 with the piano-based single "You Are My World." The following year they had their biggest hit with an energetic cover version of Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes' soul classic "Don't Leave Me This Way" (in a version inspired by Thelma Houston's cover) which spent four weeks at number one and became the UK's biggest selling single of 1986 and also, that one song was a really success on Club/Dance charts around the world (reached number one on US Dance charts and number fourty at Hot 100 singles on early 1987). It featured Sarah Jane Morris as a co-vocalist. Later that year The Communards had another UK Top 10 hit with the single "So Cold the Night." In 1987 they released an album called Red, which featured a cover version of the Jackson 5's hit "Never Can Say Goodbye" (in a version inspired by Gloria Gaynor's cover), which the Communards took to Number 4. They split in 1988 and Somerville began a solo career. Coles followed his christian leanings and, after spells as a journalist for the Times Literary Supplement and Catholic Herald, is now the vicar at St Botolph's (The Stump) in Boston, Lincolnshire.
