Together, friends and colleagues living in Ethiopia at the time established a task force to identify a school in a rural area of Ethiopia not far from its capital, Addis Ababa, that was being hit particularly hard by the drought. We enlisted the help of colleagues from the local Ethiopian Red Cross, the World Food Programme and the Food and Agriculture Organization to locate a school where we could provide continuous support over a sustained period of time to ensure that the children were fed, clothed and had clean water and supplies to enable them to concentrate on their studies.

Description: Martin Jondo (* 1979 in Berlin als Martin Jondo Sprung) ist ein deutscher Roots-Reggae-Musiker. Martin Jondo Sprung, Sohn einer Koreanerin und eines Deutschen, wurde 1979 in Berlin geboren. Dort wuchs er im Berliner Norden auf. Ende der 90er Jahre geriet er erstmals mit dem Glauben der Rastafari in Kontakt. Er begann, sich mit der Religion und Spiritualität der Rastafaris auseinanderzusetzen und stieß so auf die mit seinem neuen Glauben eng verbundene Reggae-Musik. Bei dem Rasta-Glauben handelt es sich um eine naturverbundene Religion, sodass Martin Jondo, auf der Suche nach seinen eigenen Wurzeln, durch die Natur des nahezu unberührten einstigen Todesstreifens streifte. Mit der Gitarre im Gepäck entstanden erste Songs. Martin Jondo veröffentlichte darauf seine ersten Songs auf Samplern, sowie mit anderen Künstlern zusammen. Ihm gelang mit Produzent Beat Schmieda mit dem Song Der Rebell (2001) einer der interessantesten Songs des deutschen Dancehalls, einem Phänomen von reggae-inspirierter deutscher Popmusik (ab etwa 1998, ausgelöst von einer deutschen Hip-Hop-Gruppe namens Freundeskreis mit dem Song Tabula Rasa). Dieser Song befindet sich auch auf den CDs Elemental Riddim und Selekta - Best of Dancehall Reggae Dub Ska. Weitere Songs sind „Wake up auf Statements outa Babylon, „Wunderlampe mit Silly Walks Movement und „Angels auf dem Sampler Dancehall Reggae - Made in Germany.
