Title: Sheila Joynes Teaches Music Theory - Introduction
Description: Sheila Joynes Teaches Music Theory
This is a video introducing a series of programmes designed to teach children and adults Music Theory. This training material is designed to complement a student's increasing playing abilities in their chosen instrument(s) and progress through their musical Grade Examinations.
Some examination boards do not allow a pupil to progress beyond Grade 5 until they have passed Grade 5 Music Theory. Many music teachers do not teach Music Theory (or simply do not have time to fit Theory into instrumental lessons) so this can become a "wall" the student cannot pass. Sheila Joynes's videos teach up to and including Grade 5. New students can learn along with their increasing playing ability whilst others can 'catch up' to continue their musical progress.
Parents with children learning an instrument, will find watching the Level 1 teaching modules will give them an understanding of the terms they hear their children using - a memorable Glossary of terms - and who knows, they may be encouraged to take up learning to play themselves!
Others who will benefit include those who are self taught. If you "play by ear" and would love to understand written music - these videos might be right up your street and help you enormously - watch this free sample and find out!
Sheila says, "It's never too late (or too early) to learn to play music!"

Title: YVONNE FAIR-"FUNKY MUSIC SHO' NUFF TURNS ME ON" (1975)
Description: The sequel to: "BETTY DAVIS -F.U.N.K. (2.0)"
http://youtube.com/watch?v=oNcohPUr1PI&feature=related
Here are more of the pioneers of Funk music, from circa 1969 to 1976 (with a few extra upstarts sneaking in, like Prince and Teena.) This is for all of you who enjoyed the video for "Betty Davis -F.U.N.K. Part 2)" and wanted to know more!
Like all actual culture, Funk is a gumbo in which everyone contributes. It's not one one thing any more than there is one food or one color. Here's who riled up the party:
VICKI ANDERSON, of James Brown's posse; AVERAGE WHITE BAND, from Scotland; the Escovedo brothers (scions of Sheila E) with the latin jazz of AZTECA; the other house band of Stax Records (and "SHAFT"), the BAR-KAYS; alien funkster via the U.K., DAVID BOWIE; from Parliament/Funkadelic, the funkyamorous BRIDES OF FUNKENSTEIN; Quincy Jones' secret weapons, the BROTHERS JOHNSON; psychedelic funk-rock pioneers, the CHAMBERS BROTHERS; with "Viva Tirado" comes EL CHICANO; the Bay Area's boogie blues of COLD BLOOD with belter Lydia Pense; James' hitwoman LYN COLLINS ("It takes two to make a thing go ri-iight!"); the funkrock hellion herself, BETTY DAVIS; New Orleans voodoo man, DR. JOHN; sultans of famous samples, the EBONY RHYTHM BAND; Detroit's intense funkrockers, THE 8TH DAY; Ms. YVONNE FAIR herownself; FELA RANSOME KUTI, champion of Afrobeat and revolution for Nigeria; the inventor of Funk bass, Larry GRAHAM's CENTRAL STATION; U.K's smart disco, HEATWAVE ("Boogie Nights"); the all-female funky rockers, ISIS (formed from Goldie & the Gingerbreads); the immortal ISLEY BROTHERS; the J.B.'s, James' band led by Fred Wesley, and ignition for Bootsy Collins; Nona Hendryx, Sara Dash, and Patti Labelle of LABELLE; the Wilson brothers from Columbia, with the world fusion of MANDRILL; Jorge Santana with the latin groove of MALO ("Suavecito"); madame TEENA MARIE, foil to Rick James, fronting it blunt; from Stax Records, the legendary MEMPHIS HORNS centered around Andrew Love and Wayne Jackson; the unapologetic rock of MOTHER'S FINEST, featuring Joyce Kennedy; soul groovers the NEW BIRTH; the royalty of the OHIO PLAYERS; the African fusion band OSIBISA; stealth freaker SHUGGIE OTIS; also from P-Funk, the booty-snatchin' PARLET; the secret son of Sly Stone and Betty Davis, the purple monarch PRINCE; the Native American funksters, REDBONE ("Come and Get Your Love"); the heavenly STAPLE SINGERS, featuring Mavis and Pops; Oakland's unbeatable TOWER OF POWER; Motown's answer to Funkadelic, the UNDISPUTED TRUTH; the most bad-azz music band in the land, WAR (with the Animals' Eric Burdon); hitting it once but so right, WILD CHERRY; the underrated titan of tune, BILL WITHERS; mentor to Joss Stone, BETTY WRIGHT; and Frank Zappa's MOTHERS OF INVENTION, featuring George Duke.
Phew!
About Yvonne Fair: Yvonne was an early light in the James Brown heavens, knocking out soul singles in the early 60's. Her rendition of "I Found You" is the blow-for-blow blueprint for his "I got You (I Feel Good)". She was the mother of Jame's second son.
By the 1970's she moved to Motown. She starred as Billy Holiday's (Diana Ross) mentor in their famed biopic, "Lady Sings the Blues" (1972). The Free Love ethos of the counterculture had blossomed into the loose polyamory of the 70's; this was reflected in the soul community in places like the Chakacha's orgasmic "Jungle Fever", the harcore comedy of Richard Pryor, the proud raunch of Millie Jackson, and Marvin Gaye's "Let's Get It On" album. When Betty Davis roared in to ratchet it up several notches, Motown seemed to respond with Yvonne Fair. Her LP, "The Bitch Is Black" (1975), is graced with Yvonne as a kinky whip-toting domme on the cover. Marvin Gaye produced and sang on her swaggering take on "Funky Music Sho' Nuff Turns Me On". This was a chestnut previously done by roster stars like Edwin Starr and the Temptations, but Yvonne brings a whole new swing to it. Powered by both the strength of feminism and the sensual rebellion of the time, it foretells the sex-positive activists of today.

Title: Sheila - Tommy Roe tribute (cover)
Description: Cover version.
Words and music by Tommy Roe.
Sweet little Sheila, you'll know her if you see her
Blue eyes and a pony tail
Cheeks are rosy, she looks a little nosey
Man, this little girl is fine
Never knew a girl like my little Sheila
Her name drives me insane
Sweet little girl, that's my little Sheila
Man this little girl is fine
Me and Sheila go for rides
Oh oh oh oh, I feel funny inside
Then little Sheila whispers in my ear
Oh oh oh oh, I love you Sheila dear
Sheila said she loves me, she said she'll never leave me
True love will never die
We're so doggone happy just being around together
Man this little girl is fine
---instrumental---
Never knew a girl like my little Sheila
Her name drives me insane
Sweet little girl, that's my little Sheila
Man this little girl is fine
Me and Sheila go for rides
Oh oh oh oh, I feel funny inside
Then little Sheila whispers in my ear
Oh oh oh oh, I love you Sheila dear
Sheila said she loves me, she said she'll never leave me
True love will never die
We're so doggone happy just being around together
Man this little girl is fine
Oh this little girl is fine
Yeah this little girl is fine

I've been chatting back and forth with Doug Payne (coomadoug) over the last couple weeks about covering one of his tunes. "Modern Life" is my favorite of his, and seemed best suited for my voice, and also for some cello work, so this is the result. I hope you all enjoy. Please visit Doug Payne's page. He's got a lot of great songs to listen to.

LYRICS:
City Traffic sitting still
I'm stressed, I'm stuck I'm feeling ill.
There must be something terribly wrong.
I've felt this way for far too long.
We all hate standing in a queue.
We push and shove everything we do.
In a place where speed and greed are good,
they'd sell their Grand Mother if they could.
I know the best things in life are free,
but they just wont wait for me
Life is moving way too fast.
I dont get to be with my baby til last.
Time is precious. Life is short.
Our love shouldn't be just an after thought.
I know the best things in life are free
but they will not wait for me.
So let me hold you through the coldest night
and watch you sleep til the morning light.
Can we say we're sorry when we're wrong?
Let us open up it will make us strong.
You know the best things in life are free.
Slow down baby, you'll see.
Listen to what our children say.
Remember how we were yesterday.
The crazy songs, the cloths we wore
let them bring it on for us once more.
Where the best things in life are free,
let them bring it back for me.
Life is moving way too fast.
I dont get to be with my baby til last.
Time is precious. Life is short.
and love shouldn't be just an after thought.
Time is precious. Life is short
and love shouldn't be just an after thought
