Title: Albita: "Que Manera de Quererte"
Description: Known as the Cuban diva, Albita graces audiences with her Cuban renditions of dance and soul. Her songs most often reflect her life experiences as in her song "Que Manera de Quererte" and her album Dien Que, translated as They Say That. She performs worldwide, with ballets and orchestras, and sings annually at the Miami City Ballet.
Born Albita Rodriguez in Havana, Cuba, Albita grew up around musicians. Both her parents were popular musicians in Cuba, singing punto, guajaro, a simple Cuban style of music. Her early childhood toys included bongos and claves.
She began her musical career performing throughout Havana, in nightclubs and for concerts. She made her television debut on Cuba's variety show, Palmas y Canas. The inspiration for her songs came from her own personal experiences as well as what was happening in Cuba at the time. Her first Cuban release in 1988 was on the Egrem record label. The hit "Habra Musica Guajira" (There Will Be Guajira Music) recounts her mission to recreate the sounds of authentic Cuban music. Another hit on the album, titled "Son de Tahurete" recounts the period during which Cuba was fighting for independence with Spain. The type of music Albita has identified herself with throughout her career is son, a mixture of African and European musical styles.
In 1992 Albita furthered her musical career by traveling to Colombia. With her manager Miriam Wong, Albita signed a four-year contract to record and perform in Latin America performing concerts. Her song "Hoy No Voy A Trabajar" ("Today I'm Not Going to Work") was among the hits that made her an international star. Cutting short her stay in Latin America, Albita went to Mexico in 1993 and continued on into the United States.
Albita's stay in the United States has produced much success. Her career began in the restaurant Centro Vasco where such musicians as Madonna and Gloria Estefan came to see her. In 1995 Albita released her first US album titled No Se Parce a Nada (Unlike Anything Else). She released her second album on the Crescent Moon/Epic record label. Titled Dien Que, the album combines traditional Cuban styles, as well as Baroque and African styles. Her songs are still written from her personal experiences. The song "Dien Que" is a reflection of her Cuban heritage using vocabulary and phrases that are unique to the Cuban way of speaking. During her first year on tour in the United States, Albita opened for the Cuban jazz musician Arturo Sandoval. The two began a musical friendship. He performed trumpet for the song "Hoy No Voy A Trabajar." Her tours in the United States mainly center around Miami because it "has the most prominent and influential Cuban community in this country," according to Albita.
Albita chose her musical style with her homeland in mind, singing of the traditions and yesteryear of Cuba. Her music not only appeals to young listeners for its upbeat style but also to older audiences because of the messages her songs convey.

Title: Davidson Ospina, Open Bar Music, Ospina Digital
Description: "Aha" Latin Bash EP, Davidson Ospina
Davidson Ospina is not new to the club scene, nor is he an old timer hanging on to his rep. There are many sides to the man from Queens, NY. He is a musician in every sense of the word, having played keyboards since he was a teen as well as being a prolific DJ, Producer, Remixer and Web Designer. He embraces technology with the same enthusiasm that he produces a wicked bridge or chord change in a song. In his early teens, he had a passion for playing keyboards, DJing and writing songs. When asked about his influences, Ospina says, "It was my neighbourhood that exposed me to such a wide variety of music. I was really inspired by the New York break-dancing scene. The music at that time was so exciting and made you want to move. I felt the need to contribute to that." With an impressive list of productions and remixes for English and Spanish artists, 2006 brought Ospina his first #1 hit: the chart-topping remix of Christina Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man", which hit #1 on the Billboard Club Charts and Radio Charts in September 2006 only 1 week after release. Christina was quoted as saying that it is her favourite remix version. The biggest DJs in the world, from Sanchez to Knuckles and everyone in between are playing his mix. In August, Morales opened his birthday party at Stereo in Montreal with Ospina's remix and the crowds cheered. "Ain't No Other Man" is being heard in clubs all over the world, from the beaches of Australia to Ibiza, where it has become a summer favourite. Davidson Ospina's name and label, Ospina Digital Records, are quickly becoming a household name in the industry and the press.
Ospina's remixing credits include work with Britney Spears, Backstreet Boys, Pet Shop Boys, and Dimitri From Paris. His Spanish-language remixes are also notable, working with such artists as Enrique Iglesias, Albita, Gloria Estefan, and Mark Anthony, as well as projects like Cabas "Tu Boca" and Magic Juan "Ultima Vez". When asked about it, Davidson feels blessed and gives a lot to being a musician and DJ. "Keyboards opened the door, to working with other producers, and artists. Understanding musical changes keep my productions moving with an artist vocal. At the same time I work at building energy that will keep the dance floor happy. The DJing keeps me fresh, and helps me see what directions the crowds are moving and what is exciting to them directly," says Ospina.
Davidson's career shifted into high gear with the launch of his record labels, SPINA RECORDS and OSPINA DIGITAL RECORDS. Product from his label can be found on Traxsource.com, Beatport.com and Stompy.com. In addition, his entrepreneurial side created a web design company, TOMA MEDIA, which offers great solutions and tools for people in the music industry. TOMA MEDIA has created groundbreaking software for Publicity, Marketing & Promotional companies. The MP Systemâ„¢, designed by Ospina himself, is being used for the distribution of promotional material for SAW Recordings, Deep Haven Music, Media Services NYC, Ovidpek, and others. By reputation, Ospina can usually be found spinning at the funky underground spots of the Lower East Side in NYC. His gigs in Italy, Spain, Canada and Central America, where he recently toured for Marlboro, have kept his appeal diverse and fresh. Davidson Ospina is firmly rooted in the music industry and continues to thrive in all his endeavours. He's the one to watch for 2007...
