Title: Wanda Jackson & Red Meat - Mean Mean Man (2007)
Description: Here's a video of rockabilly legend Wanda Jackson backed by country western band Red Meat at Don Quixote's in Felton, California on March 22, 2007. The song performed is "Mean Mean Man," originally recorded in 1958 for Capitol Records. This video was shot with an itty-bitty Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1 still camera, which actually looks better than some footage I shot with some bulky camcorders over 20 years ago!
Wanda Jackson is an under-rated musician that got started in the music industry thanks to her dear friend Elvis Presley. Exactly why she isn't in the Rock and Roll of Fame is an absolute mystery to me. She's been called the Queen of Rockabily, and I wish more credit would be given to her, as well as Brenda Lee, Janis Martin, and Lorrie Collins, who have really been pioneers in the musical genre known as rock and roll. For more information about this amazing talent, you need to check out her website, and see her LIVE next time she's in your town!

Title: Roots of Rock: Wanda Jackson
Description: Over the past three days, Grammy-nominated Wanda Jackson (http://www.wandajackson.com/) (aka "The First Lady of Rock" and the "Rockabilly Filly"), who has been inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and the Oklahoma Country Music Hall of Fame (among other honors), has been on hand at the "Roots of Rock" workshop in Port Townsend at Fort Warden State Park sharing her wisdom from over storied 50 years in the rock business.
Jackson got her start playing guitar and singing country music as a teenager in the 50s, and-- after encouragement from her friend Elvis Presley--turned her hand to rock. With hits like "Fujiyama Mama" (which made her a sensation in Japan) and a cover of Elvis Presley's "Let's Have a Party, "which became a top 40 hit in the 60s, Jackson made an indelible mark on the music world at a time when women were supposed to be keeping house and having babies.
