Description: To me, the album On The Jungle Floor should have ended with this song, instead of that hot mess, "The Night Is Young" (which I chose not to upload). It's funny... one of the better songs on the album precedes the WORST song on it. What WAS he thinking when he created that song? Anywho, this is one of the better songs on the album. Actually, it's one out of only a handful of ballads on the album (all of which are tacked on at the end). I wish he would've done more slow songs like this, given how much I like this one. It's very poignant. Stylistically, "Hole In My Heart" reminds me of Al Green. You have those same sweeping strings, that bluesy guitar and that gospel swagger to it... all made famous by The Reverend. Not to say that that's a bad thing... oh, no. If you can get past the blatant influence, this song is actually very good on its own merits. It's nice that Hunt is emulating the greats. But like I always say, he puts that "Van Hunt twist" on it to make it not only retro, but modern. I rate this song highly (top 5) out of the all the songs I've heard by Hunt so far (including his first 2 albums). If you feel like keeping your screen up for a few minutes, I tacked on a picture at the end that you may find amusing... or... sad.
