Title: World Music Festival 2007 @ Penang
Description: Penang, 22 July 2007 -- Penang hosted its first World Music Festival for three consecutive days beginning July 20 to 23 at the 1.2 million newly launched Quarry Garden in Penang. The Festival, which was one of Visit Malaysia Year 2007 event, saw 3000 strong audiences for the first day, and the number doubled in the next two days it was held. More than 5000 tickets were sold for the three-day festival. From now on, the public can mark the Festival in their calendars as a 'must-attend' event, as it will be held annually and to be held at the same venue every year. The event saw participation from 18 bands performing exciting music from their respective cultural roots. There were 13 international bands and five local ones strutted their unique music on stage. The performances are very distinctive to one another as they are accompanied by traditional instrument, which added a strong ethnic edge to it. As an inaugural event, the festival proved to be a great success and it is not surprising that it will lure more international bands to take part as well as act as a strong crowd puller to the state. Plans are afoot by the authorities concerned to ensure that future festivals will be even more bigger and better. The Festival is jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Malaysia, the Penang Tourism Action Council and Sarawak Tourism Board. Log on to: www.VirtualMalaysia.com/vmtv
