Title: B J Thomas - I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
Description: Thomas was reared in and around Houston, Texas. He graduated from Lamar Consolidated High School in Rosenberg. Before his solo career, Thomas sang in a church choir as a teenager then joined the musical group The Triumphs. In 1966, B. J. Thomas and The Triumphs released the album, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry (Pacemaker Records). The album featured a hit cover of the Hank Williams song, "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry". In the same year, Thomas released a solo album of the same name (Scepter Records). Thomas achieved mainstream success again in 1968, with the single "Hooked on a Feeling", which featured the sound of an electric sitar, first released on the album On My Way (Scepter Records). The 1969 film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, featured Thomas performing the (Burt Bacharach - Hal David) song "Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head", which became the number one song on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1970. The song was also released on an album of the same name. Others hits of the seventies were "Just Can't Help Believing" (Billboard #9 in 1970, covered by Elvis Presley), "Rock and Roll Lullaby", "No Love", "Everybody is Out Of Town" and "Mighty Clouds of Joy". In 1975, Thomas released the album Reunion (ABC Records), which contained what would become his second number one hit single, "(Hey Won't You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song." On ABC he also charted with "Songs" and "Don't Worry Baby"(the Beach Boys classic). Noted tracks of the 1980s, include, "Two Car Garage", "Whatever Happened to Old Fashioned Love" and "New Looks from an Old Lover" (see 1984 in music). Thomas scored another hit, recording "As Long As We Got Each Other", the theme to Growing Pains with Jennifer Warnes. A later version, used for the show's fourth season, was recorded with the British singer Dusty Springfield. Thomas first released this track on his 1985 album Throwing Rocks At The Moon (Columbia Records). Thomas has also authored two books and starred in the movie "Jory". Several commercial jingles, to include Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and Bell phone systems, featured his voice and music. During the mid-1990s, rumors cropped up that Thomas had died, but to the best of common knowledge, he is alive and well. The singer has continued to record and tour, maintaining a smaller but loyal fan base. He is very popular in Brazil, where his songs "Oh Me Oh My" and "Long Ago Tomorrow" (by Burt Bacharach and Hal David) were big hits in the seventies. The singer also found some new fans in Contemporary Christian Music. In 2002 he charted his first single since the late 1980s, with "You Call That A Mountain" from an album of the same name. In October 2007 B.J. Thomas released "Love To Burn" an album of all new material.

Title: Dionne Warwick & B.J. Thomas Make It Easy On Yourself 1969
Description: Dionne Warwick sang a stunning arrangement by Larry Wilcox of Make It Easy On Yourself in concert at the Garden State Arts Center in June 1970. The live version of "Make It Easy On Yourself" was released as a single in September 1970, and Dionne finally had her hit with it, reaching #37 on the Billboard Hot 100, #26 on the Billboard R&B Chart, and #2 on the Billboard AC chart in the US and #24 in Canada. But, on December 6, 1969, Burt Bacharach took Dionne and BJ Thomas to A&R studios with his new arrangement and recorded the tune as a duet. It is believed that this version was either to be included in Dionne's I'll Never Fall In Love Again or Very Dionne LPs, but was eventually culled in favor of Dionne's live version. In 2006 Rhino released on the "Very Dionne" reissue hereto unknown additional tracks found in the Warner vaults, including a duet of the tune They Don't Give Medals to Yesterdays Heroes with BJ Thomas recorded in the same session and an unknown 1970 Dionne Warwick recording of a very quirky and unusual Bacharach tune "(The Very First Person I Met In) California". Dionne also cut Heroes as a solo track in the same session. Also discovered in the Warner vaults was an empty tape box labeled with notations that Dionne Warwick first recorded Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "Everybodys Out of Town" in the same December session. BJ recorded the tune a month later as his followup to Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head. The master tape containing Dionne's original version of "Everybody's Out of Town" has never been found.

Producer: Sonny Lester Engineer: Tony Bongiovi, Glen Burger, Bob Clifford Lonnie Smith was born in Buffalo, NY in 1953. Musically inspired at a young age, he started with a trumpet, but created his first vocal group in high school called The Supremes. His first exposure to the Hammond organ was in church and through the hits of Bill Doggett and Jimmy Smith. After getting his hands on Midnight Special, he tried every time he could to learn everything about that organ. Lonnie would practice every day at Art Kubero's music store. Finally, while in NYC, Lonnie sat in with the Jack McDuff Quartet with George Benson. When Benson left to form his own group, he asked Lonnie to be his organist. Jimmy Boyd, who signed Benson, saw Lonnie playing at Small's, and came up to him and told him to show up the following day for a recording session with Grant Green. Lonnie never went, as he felt he wasn't ready to be playing with someone of the caliber of Grant. After playing with Benson for a while, and recording a few albums for Columbia with him, Lou Donaldson asked both of them in on the Alligator Bogaloo session. From then on, Lonnie was thrilled to be associated with Blue Note for 4-5 years. After his only release as a leader for Columbia, Lonnie recorded four albums as a leader for Blue Note, as well as appearing as a sideman on many other releases. This association ended when Frank Wolff died, after which Lonnie recorded many albums for Sonny Lester. His 1971 Mama Wailer is a Jazz-Funk classic. His Afrodesia (LRC, 1977) with Benson, Randy Brecker & Steve Gadd among others has some interesting compositions and arrangements. Watch out: many stores and discographies mistake him for Lonnie "Liston" Smith and only have one bin for both. "Dr." Lonnie Smith recently recorded three albums with John Abercrombie and Marvin "Smitty" Smith. Two are tributes to Jimi Hendrix: Purple Haze and Foxy Lady (which, according to Abercrombie, were supposed to be one album); one a tribute to John Coltrane: Afro Blue. In 1995, Blue Note released, as part of their Rare Groove Series, a previoulsy unreleased live recording with Dave Hubbard, George Benson, Ronnie Cuber and Joe Dukes. Live At Club Mozambique has quickly become a favorite among Jazz organ fans. Besides continuing to record and tour with Lou Donaldson, and recording as a sideman to help out local artists, he was just featured on two all-star recordings from Hip Bop's Essence series: Organic Grooves with Joey DeFrancesco, Kenny Garrett and Lenny White, and the new BongoBop with Reuben Wilson, Doug Carn and Joey DeFrancesco.
