Title: JOHN SCOFIELD TRIO. Malaga Jazz Festival, TVSpain
Description: JOHN SCOFIELD, considered along with Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell, to be one of the three greatest jazz guitarists at this time, John Scofield, (Dayton, Ohio, USA, 1951), is known for his modern interpretations, his extraordinary capacity for improvisation and his ability to compose songs that are sharp, rhythmic, and extremely danceable. His sound, with its roots firmly in rock and soul, is influenced by early Chuck Berry, Albert King and B.B. King. As a teenager, he began to play rock and roll, urban blues and rhythm and blues. Between 1982 and 1985 he accompanied Miles Davis and since then has preferred to lead his own groups, although this has not stopped him working together with Gary Burton, John Abercrombie, Larry Coryell, Bennie Wallace, Peter Erskine, Hal Galper, Jack DeJohnette, Joe Lovano, Bill Stewart and Brad Mehldau, amongst other, as well as recording with Charlie Mingus and Chet Baker. His discography is as extensive as it is great and among his more than 30 albums, perhaps the most outstanding are Still warm (86), Loud Jazz (87), Hand Jive (93) and Oh! (03), in the company of Joe Lovano, Dave Holland and Al Foster. Last September he brought out This meets that, which includes, amongst other tracks, a version of "(I can't get no) Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones. The Malaga concert of THE JOHN SCOFIELD TRIO plus HORNS - "This Meets That", features: JOHN SCOFIELD -- guitar, STEVE SWALLOW -- bass, BILL STEWART -- drums, PHIL GRENADIER -- trumpet and flugelhorn, EDDIE SALKIN -- tenor sax, flute and clarinet, FRANK VACIN -- baritone sax and clarinet.
