Title: Drancing accelerometer music: PureData/GEM & WiiRemote
Description: Drancing is Dr Darren Kelly's real-time gestural synthesis accelerometer music system (under development since 1996). A rapid prototype of "DranceWare" in the PureData/GEM audio/video synthesis environment has been developed for the Nintendo Wii as wireless triaxial accelerometer via Bluetooth.
This movie demonstrates combined Variable Fequency Oscillator (VFO), Amplitude Modulation (AM), and triggered Drum sample ("Drumming by Dancing") modes along with Drancel RGB monitor visuals projected onto the "Drancer" performer.
For this demonstration two hand-held WiiMotes on a MacBook Pro were used (the original Drancing sensor suit and Java DranceWare used 5 triaxial accelerometers in a "body star" pattern").
Sorry for the occasional rough audio clipping and iSight webcam; am now working on improved (limited/compressed) audio and higher quality video.

Title: Tactile Communication Cards & System For Deaf-Blind
Description: Beth Koenig director of deaf-blind services at OCDAC explains out the tactile communication cards and the system for communicating with the deaf-blind.
http://www.deafadvocacy.org
Transcript:
Hi, my name is Beth Koeing. I'm the director of deaf blind services at the Orange County Deaf Advocacy Center. And today I'm going to show you our Tactile Communication System that we have for lower functioning deaf blind people. Now over here we have our board and we have different consepts and stuff represented. Now this is just the begining because we are actually going to end up having much more than this, which is why the board is so big. We're going to be having a lot more but we have to find the matterials to make the cards first. So these are... This is our places cards, they are red and have a certain shape on them. And they have texture, this happeneds to be a spoon with stuff in it which stands for cafateria. So like dorm and these are different places. This repersents different people. We have physical theripst, VI Teacher which stands for visual impaired. O & M which stands for their cane teacher. And the person cards are repersented by this shape here. I'll show those closer up later.
The music keyboard, and these are all objects. TV, CD, soda, water, toy, all these diferent things. Objects are repersented by the white cards with a dome shape.
These are actions. We have eat, play, clean, dress, drink. And so if they want to do something they will give us one of these cards. It's kind of like the picture exchange system, also known as PECS.
And over here we have today, tommorrow, yesterday, and of course we'll have all the days of the week by the time we finish. This is to give them a kind of calendar. So we can make a calendar and show them which activity we are doing which days and what times. This is misc catagory, umm no actually I think this is the abstract concepts catagory. Cancel, Yes, No, good bye, hello, yuck. I don't know why they have this for yuck but anyways. This is the other catagory. We have birthday, hot, cold, happy, sad, these kind of express feeling, events and things that other wise don't fit in the other catagroies. That's our tactile card communication system that we have for our deaf blind people. And let me do a close up on some of these cards.
Here's clean for instance. And you can see this has the shape on top of it. And then also on the back is the velcro so that it sticks to the board. Now down in this area here we will have the sign. So that people that maybe don't know the sign for that word can reinforce it. So we have 4 different ways of expressing the word clean. You have of cource the tactile repersentation, we have it in print and in braille, and then we're going to have the sign on the back. And we'll have these pretty much all over the place eventually when we get more of them.
So that's our tactile communication board and hopefully I'll get to shoot another video when it's finished.

Title: HANNAH MARSHALL AUTUMN/WINTER 2008-09 COLLECTION
Description: Since gaining a First Class degree from Colchester School of Art & Design in 2003, and experience with leading London fashion designers, Hannah has gone onto establish herself as both designer and entrepreneur in her own right. Her refined designs and talent attracted the attentions of the first ever Creative Pioneer Programme to come from NESTA (The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts). At the age of just twenty-one, Hannah was the youngest of 30 young entrepreneurs, to receive personal and business training to help transform their ideas into a business.
Hannah Marshall has since been recognised by organisations such as the BBC, The Princes Trust, Channel 4, and more recently New Generation sponsored by TOPSHOP at London Fashion Week. Internationally recognised, New Generation support has helped launch the careers of some of Britain's top designers, including the likes of Alexander McQueen, Mathew Williamson and Julien McDonald.
Hannah Marshall is a contemporary luxury British brand encapsulating design experience through exquisite clothing. Sharp, refined pieces are delivered with meticulous cut and architectural lines in indulgent and often contrasting fabrics. Featuring body conscious, dynamic and voluminous silhouettes, Marshall dexterously incorporates signature tactile Braille messages into her collections which are centred on the iconic LBD. Marshall's Braille concept stems from a curiosity of a developmental fusion of clothing and communication. Coupled with this is the intention to evolve a search for new and innovative aesthetics, the result being an intimate language of silhouette and message to be deciphered only by the wearer. This language is conveyed through the juxtaposition of heavy leather with the transparency of silk chiffon along with a fine sense of colour and obligatory black at the forefront of each collection.
At only 25, British designer Hannah Marshall's ascent from fresh-faced fashion graduate to internationally acclaimed young designer has been nothing short of meteoric. A rising star of the fashion firmament, Hannah Marshall has produced just three collections under her eponymous label, all have signalled the beginning of what is to become the reinvention of the Little Black Dress. February 2007 saw the introduction of her distinctive AW07 'Quiet Noise' collection which debuted at the On|Off exhibition followed by the much anticipated catwalk shown SS08 'VoID' in September 2007 and most recently for AW08 "Code Black" was shown as part of New Gen at London Fashion Week.
Press coverage highlights include; British Vogue, Style.com, American ELLE, Grazia, Vogue.com, Highlights (Australia), The Independent, fashion156.com, Gap Press, Japanese ELLE, Aishti and Exit to name a few.
